     Welcome to Jackson State, the only university based in the largest
metropolitan area and capitol city in the state of Mississippi.

    We are dedicated to "Challenging Minds, Changing Lives," but that is more
than a motto at Jackson State. With more than 8,000 enrolled, our faculty,
staff and administrators work tirelessly to find innovative ways to prepare
our students for the challenges that lie ahead and to solve problems of
local, national and international importance.

     These students come to us with a thirst for knowledge and determination to
accomplish their goals. As I shake their hands during each spring and summer
commencement exercise, I am proud of graduates and excited about the
possibilities of their future.

     The support of our many friends and alumni help make sure that Jackson State
continues its tradition of academic excellence. I'm convinced that together
we can make a great JSU even better.
